Mattress Recycling by State

California, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Oregon have statewide mattress recycling programs established by state law. The Mattress Recycling Council operates the Bye Bye Mattress program in these states and provides eligible entities with collection, transportation and recycling of mattresses. Other states have mattress recycling facilities too, but MRC does not operate Bye Bye Mattress in these areas.

California

Businesses and institutions may drop off their collected units at participating recyclers or designated commercial drop-off sites. Mattress retailers, hotels, universities, hospitals and military bases with at least 100 units are eligible to receive transportation assistance from MRC.

Recycling Facilities
A participating recycling facility will accept large quantities at no cost. An appointment is required. See locator for recycling facilities.

Commercial Drop-off Sites
Select sites accept commercial volume for free. Unit limits may apply and an appointment may be required. See list for details.

Transportation Eligibility
MRC will pick up mattresses at no cost from mattress retailers, hotels, universities, hospitals and military bases with at least 100 units. Retailers must be compliant with California’s law (collecting and remitting the required recycling fee and maintaining a registration with MRC). See full details here.
